Women's travel clothing comes in such variety we are spoilt for choice - so travel style and needs will dictate what we buy.

Deciding which items I need is the easy part - all I have to do is consult my travel packing list. Deciding which styles and brands to buy is far harder.

Choose travel clothes that make you comfortable

Each of these has its own specifications, but there are general characteristics you should look for as a rule for pretty much every item of clothing you buy. These include:

• Weight: you don't want a heavy backpack if you're planning a lot of walking
• Drying speed - the faster the better
• Wrinkling - as little as possible
• Compatibility - items you can mix and match and layer
• Sturdiness - you'll be washing them often
• Versatility and flexibility
• Colorfast - you don't want your clothes to run when you wash them
• Sprayable fabric - beware as some synthetics can't be sprayed with mosquito repellent
• Pockets with secure fastenings
• Comfort - you may be wearing it for a long time
• Temperature control, not too hot and not too cold
  
• Resistance to stains and dirt
• Water repellent properties
• Comfort, comfort, comfort
• Cultural appropriateness - in some countries pants are a no-no for women
• And lets not forget great looks!
