When NOT to smile at men in public

I don't know if this is where this comment should go :-), but I just had to say that your page on "Unwanted Male Attention" is priceless. With your permission, I am going to print your excellent recommendations out and send a copy to each young or older woman we know who travels.

You cover all the bases that I have been trying to get across for years - having had to extricate our daughter (now happily married in Bolivia, and yes, he is Bolivian) as well as several other young North American girls who thought it was just being nice to Smile at Men in Public (well, it IS fine where I come from).

Anyway, thanks for expressing these guidelines in firm words. It will save some from at the least extremely uncomfortable situations or, worse, rapes and violence.

Ed. Note: Thanks for your comments, David and Lin - and please do print out the page and pass it around, or share some of the caution within it. It's designed to help women who travel stay safe!
