Happy I was able to help!
by: Leyla

Gina, you did it! Well done! It's not always easy to take that first step and when it works out, it's so empowering, isn't it?

It would have been such a shame to miss that trip just because you had no one to go with, and that's always what I try to get across. You don't have to travel solo, but if you're on your own, you shouldn't stay home just because you have no one to travel with!

Please do come back and post about your New York trip - it's always great to hear about solo experiences.

I encourage women often to go solo
by: claire

Why are so many people tied at the hip? My parents were married 62 years and in the summer Mom would take off and my Dad didn't mind. I guess that's why I love it.

Also where's a good place to stay in NYC?

Solo travel should be as normal as any other travel
by: Leyla

Claire - that's exactly how it should be! If your Mom felt like traveling and your Dad didn't, then off she went. Unfortunately it's not always that easy... women may want to travel but feel guilty about leaving family behind, and a host of other reasons that may be justified for them.

As for NYC, I can't give you any location-specific advice but I have two web friends with New York websites. Check out NYC Insider Guide and NYC Explorer.

Sites for independent women

Thanks for the tip.

A great step for women and men to take to understand why they feel guilt is womenwithin.org and for men mankindproject.org. Totally non-judgemental and nurturing.
