I was backpacking in Ireland and I was running low on funds. I was going through a small town on the northern coast and stopped at the local pub. (A wonderful place to meet people I might add).
I heard a gentleman speaking with some friends about needing a farmhand so I walked over and said hello. I spend about 5 days there milking goats and shoveling the barn. In exchange I got some wonderful hospitality, good directions, and some fresh local goats cheese packed in a take along.
I think the funniest part was that he thought an american wouldn't know how to do farm work the old fashioned way. I was raised on a farm with about 12 goats and 5 cows. My chore was the milking when I was old enough to carry the bucket.
