I completely agree with you on Ubud but wouldn't forget the rest of the island. Stay away from Sanur but do hit Kuta if you ever feel a bit homesick as it's full of Western people. Then hit the mountains of Tabanan - there's little guest houses in the smallest of villages where they hardly ever see a foreigner and don't know a word of English but that doesn't stop themn from being the kindest of kindest. I stayed for 3 months and it was amazing, the rice fields, the food, the temples, experiencing a funeral and a wedding full of flowers, and traditional dancing. It was absoulutely amazing!
